About Us
History
Recognizing the need to develop a local economy on the reservation, as well as the difficulty of accessing capital and technical assistance for reservation entrepreneurs, New`e Development Corporation – the economic development arm of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe – began to develop the infrastructure to form a community development financial institution. In December 2001, under New`e’s direction and with the tribal council’s support, the Wind River Development Fund was created. After developing the necessary infrastructure, creating policies and procedures, obtaining initial start-up capital, identifying a permanent board and staff, and finding a location, WRDF began actual operations late in the summer of 2003.

WRDF now operates as an independent, non-profit community development financial institution serving the Wind River Indian Reservation. WRDF has three full-time staff members and six board of directors.

Mission, Goals and Objectives
WRDF’s mission is to provide financial opportunities to stimulate economic development on the Wind River Indian Reservation, promoting self-sufficiency, self-determination and an enhanced quality of life for the reservation community. WRDF’s goals are four-fold:

Goal 1. Provide financial products and services responsive to the needs of the community.

Goal 2. Increase community members’ business and financial management skills.

Goal 3. Improve the reservation business environment.

Goal 4. Become a long-term, sustainable resource for the community.
